Students from across the Valley and La Veta competed in the Fifth Annual San Luis Valley FFA Range Judging Competition at the Falk Family Ranch in La Veta. 51 agriculture students representing six FFA chapters were in attendance: Centauri, Monte Vista, La Veta, Sangre De Cristo, Sanford, and Sargent.

– Three Gold Individuals: Kimmy Pargin, Madeline Mitchell, Parker Mitchell

Two Silver Individuals: Kandace Pargin, Rylie Harmon
– 
One Bronze Individual: Sylvia Daugherty
– High Individual in both Plant ID and Rangeland Site: Madeline Mitchell
Students were required to identify 20 plant species and analyze growth conditions of a rangeland site. They took into consideration plant composition and detailed plant inventory to show their deep understanding of plant ecology. With the drought this year, it was challenging but Sargent students still did very well! While the scorecards were being judged the students listened to a presentation from the owners of Falk ranch about their unique grazing methods over 20 paddocks. Congrats to the Sargent range team!
