Rylie Harmon applied for the Heifer Wrangler Production Grant in mid-November of last year. She was approved and granted one production heifer from Russell Ag LLC. The grant required Rylie to write Bi-weekly letters to update her sponsors and present a project board and scrap book at FFA State Convention in June.
In August Rylie showed her heifer at the SLV county fair and placed 5th overall and got Reserved FFA heifer. She then showed her heifer (Dolly) at a jackpot this summer winning Grand Champion Breeding Heifer. Rylie and Dolly qualified to show at Colorado State and Monday August 31st, Dolly and Rylie went into show and won Grand Champion Production Heifer Showmanship and Grand Champion Showman winning two banners. In addition to that for the breeding show Rylie and Dolly won Grand Champion Show Heifer and 3rd overall Heifer. All those points were taken into consideration for the overall Grand Champion and that was also awarded to Rylie winning her a buckle.
Her heifer was to be bred at the time of state fair. She will then calf and Rylie will send one final letter to her sponsor, present her scrap and record books, and interview at State Convention next June. After final judging is closed she is clear to keep her heifer in her breeding program.
